COLDER WEATHER, LONGER COATS
It's hard being a style blogger in the Midwest, specially when the weather starts hitting the negative digits. All I want to do on days like that is stay in bed cuddled up in blankets but if I go out for work, school, or have other plans like photographing outfits for the blog I make sure to stay warm. Regular coats and jackets don't really cut it when it starts to get that frigid so I wear a longer coat that will help cover part of my legs since I do tend to commute rather than drive if the roads aren't that great. It becomes a bit of work to make sure longer coats help compliment a whole outfit but sometimes you have got to work with what you've got!
The coat I am wearing here is a Levi's down jacket that resembles an Anorak design. The down feather component of most winter jackets help trap air and prevent the loss of body heat just in case you guys were wondering why jackets are made with down. For the most part companies use synthetic down now which good for our bird friends. So keep an eye out for that when purchasing a coat with down component. This coat can be adjusted around the waist from the inside, as well as the back to keep it tighter around me. It also has really long pockets which is awesome compared to most coats I own, perfect for when I don't want to carry a purse with me and just place my belongings in there like my cell phone or lip balm. And it comes in handy too for putting away mittens or a beanie when taking it off.
Depending on the design longer coats can really help make an outfit look more classy or stylish so there's plenty of designs out there that are not only meant for winter. I tend to use heeled shoes when I wear a longer coat so it doesn't make me appear shorter than what I already am. So that's a big tip for anyone petite out there trying to make longer coats work for them. Also jackets like this one that have a way to cinch at the waistline are great to help emphasize the appearance of curves, which gets lost with so many layers underneath. Below are some fun coats for you guys to check out just click the photos:
The coat I have on is no longer available online so I apologize but it's from the Levi's 2015 winter line for mainline stores
